The One Thing that Changes Everything™

Reactions forming the basis of polymer chemistry were discovered as early as 1850, while polyurethanes were developed in the 1930s. Polyurea, first commercialized in the 1990s, is an advancement of this polymer chemistry and is used today in a wide variety of products and applications.

Eighty percent of pallets in circulation today are wood and have remained essentially unchanged since their introduction in the early 1920s, relying on unsustainable materials and old assembly processes. Wood pallets continue to be used primarily because they are cheap and the market has lacked suitable alternatives.

However, Lightning Technologies has advanced both technologies by developing a superior formulation of proprietary hybrid polyurea coating with unique properties, which, when applied to engineered structural elements of our design, completely revolutionize the shipping platform. In addition to the combination of these two technologies, we have designed a proprietary process to robotically encapsulate the shipping platform structure at high velocity and extremely consistent quality.

Exobond™ — a revolutionary coating that is fundamentally reinventing the shipping platform.

Advanced Manufacturing

Lightning Technologies’ technological breakthrough is the combination of our engineered pallet’s structural design with our newly formulated, proprietary, hybrid polyurea coating, Exobond™. Our advanced, highly automated processes are high-tech, high-speed, and highly repeatable, to ensure the complete integrity of the coating as well as the structural and dimensional consistency of the final product — anywhere in the world.

Securing the Supply Chain

Lightning Technologies and GARD have developed the trackable, traceable, and sanitizable pallet. It monitors location, temperature, impact, and humidity during its journey along the supply chain. Currently, it’s estimated that 10% of all medicines worldwide are counterfeit. Global losses of perishable foods account for an estimated $35 billion annually — half of which can be attributed to breakdown in the cold chain. We will help secure the supply chain from such disruptions by employing our unique PalletChain™.

Safety and Ergonomics

Our innovative design requires no nails or screws, eliminating the risk of employee injury or damaged floors. Complete encapsulation means no slivers and no protruding broken wood or plastic components. And its lighter-weight design makes our pallets easier for operators to handle with improved ergonomics.
